Terminal V Podcast 075 || Juicy Romance

“I’m a juicy b*itch, keep my name off your lips” says Juicy Romance’s Instagram bio, but no one is following her instruction because the London-based Australian is one of the hottest in the game right now. Her productions and DJ sets build a dance floor environment where clubbers can experience the best of both worlds; sprinklings of sexy, bad-bitch vocals, over ass-shaking, earth-quaking club floor fillers..

She has come a long way from her roots as a “small-town country girl” playing violin and skiing stones and is now more accustomed to blowing up dance floors all across the world with her unapologetically party-starting sounds. Ahead of Juicy Romance playing Terminal V this Halloween, she has put together a selection of sexy, steamy, provocative club sounds to get you in the mood.  It features a sneak peek of some of her own new and upcoming bits as well as some raw demos, all of which add up to a darkly seductive world of strobe-lit sound.

You are described as “the scandalizer from down under.” How have you earned that title? What is your personality type, and how is it reflected in the music you make and play?

Juicy was first referred to as ‘The scandalizer from down under” when she was caught by a hidden paparazzi wearing no underwear at her show, under a very short leopard print mini skirt. As you can imagine, the tabloids were crazy that week, and they simply adored using the double entendre of “under under” seeing as I’m from down under but was also caught with no knickers on my down under. I liked it too, so now it’s my crowning title.

I’ve been told my personality type is “naughty, intellectual” and I’ve decided that my musical genre is “Naughty sexual ” so I guess my music is basically my personality if my brain only cared about sex, drugs and private jets.

What is the most fun and memorable romance you have ever experienced and why?

Hmmmm this is a tough one….. There has been a lot of romance. The most titillating romance I’ve experienced would have to be with my collection of animal print bikinis. They support me when I need to frolic, hold me together when I’m scared of being exposed, make me look sexy when I don’t feel it, and most importantly, help me keep public attention on me at all times. Second would have to be Calvin Harris. I love you Calvin <3

Tell us about your mix, the aim you had with it, and what you wanted it to say.

This mix has a collection of sexy, clubby, naughty bangers, some of which are of my own creation. Three of the songs in there are off my upcoming EP, out in November, and there are also a few demos I made last week on my bedroom floor. I’m sure you will be able to work out which ones they are 😉 In terms of a message from the mix, I wanted it to say, “I’m up in the club, now get me a cocktail bitch”. I hope this makes the listener want to be shaking ass in the club, grinding up on a hottie and sipping something expensiv

What gear did you use, is that important to you in any way whether in the booth or studio?

I used studio 10 at Pirate Studios in Hackney and as I do every time I record a mix there, I left swearing I would never ever use them again because usually half of the equipment is broken, and sticky from a weekend bender DJ sesh. I’m not super precious about equipment usually, and make music just with my laptop and Mic, but I do like the equipment to be working and the sound to be banging when I record a mix, so I can get in the schmood

What’s next, what other projects are in the pipeline?

There are many very exciting things in the pipeline, some of which I can’t mention yet. But, lots and lots of music to be released, including some exciting collabs with fellow musical baddies, an Australian tour with some very special shows, and some more fun Juicy VIP fan events. And most importantly, my Halloween set at Terminal V in Edinburgh!! I’m hoping to go as sexy shrek but need to work out if my manager will be present to paint my entire body green. Fingers crossed!!
