Terminal V Podcast 082 || Lucia Lu

Lucia Lu is Berlin born and bred and very much represents that in her music. She admits her main mission is to represent the various sounds of city on the world stage, and does so with a specific love of techno while aiming to find the nuance amongst its dark, energetic grooves and hypnotic melodies. The journey so far has taken her to some of the best clubs in the world, always with a sense of dynamism that is unique to her.

The mix Lucia has put together for us is a downtempo delight that is all about finding romance in the techno capital of the world. Read on for more on that as well as an insight into her musical identity, what she loves about living in Berlin and her goals for the New Year…

What goals and targets and dreams do you have for 2025, do you make creative or personal aspirations like that?

Yes, I do but not in terms of a checklist. My goal for 2025 is to have fun, more fun than last year. Enjoy every experience and follow the flow that feels good. I believe this is how you let more joy into your life and attract what is meant for you. My other goal is to find balance between flow and structure.

What is it that inspires or influences you most about living in Berlin – the people, the clubs, the architecture, weather, mood, or something else?

It’s all you mentioned and more. I love that Berlin is, in comparison to big cities, still overseeable. We are the little Freedom Island of Germany, where everyone can live out peacefully with everything they want. There is a bubble for everyone. Despite its capital city status, it never lost its richness of communities.

I love how the scene here is challenging normative views. Berlin also has the best clubs I have ever experienced. There is just this extra freedom we have here in Germany when it comes to partying that I haven’t seen anywhere else. If you enjoy music, it’s a must to come to Berlin. I fell in love with the weather here quite late. The winters are cold and wet, but I love a year with different seasons. I cannot complain. What inspires me the most here are the people I meet.

How often do you go searching for new music, where do you go, and how do you approach it? Do you have a method or routine?

I don’t have a method or routine. I prefer to search for music on the night. I collect music in many genres – I feel like an art or book collector.

Is there something that unifies the sounds you play, do you think, something that adds up to your own DJ identity?

I think that my identity created my sound. Everything I like influences my sound, and my only job is to make sense of it.

Tell us about your mix, the aim you had with it, and what you wanted it to say.

I wanted to do a cute, chill mix about a love story. I was inspired by people that say you cannot find love in Berlin. I believe you can, I believe you find it everywhere. Even though love can be hurtful, it’s a way to learn about yourself and about relationships.

What gear did you use, is that important to you in any way whether in the booth or studio?

I have preferences, but I believe a pro should be able to work with everything. I love the challenge of a broken or unexpected setup.

What are you working on for the rest of the year?

I will work on a lot of things, but I believe it’s better to show than to speak.
