Terminal V Podcast 100 || CERA KHIN

In the best way possible, Cera Khin doesn’t care what you or anyone else thinks of her. She’s here to do things her way. That approach has seen her blaze a path to the top table of hard techno, playing in the world’s best clubs and dropping her own compelling club cuts on various labels, including her own. The Tunisian-born DJ and producer has long been an advocate for breaking the stigma around mental health, and everything she does is designed to reflect her own raw emotions, whatever they may be.
Here we speak to her about her latest label, CK777 Recordings, becoming a hypnotherapist and why she likes to play hard and fast. Get stuck in while you dive deep into a mix that showcases exactly where she is at right now and reminds us all not to take life too seriously.
Tell us about your record label. Why start your own, what do you want it to sound like and what are you looking for in the artists you work with? Is it just about music or do you need to have a relationship with the artist?
I started CK777 Recordings last year after outgrowing LazyTapes. Found new talent on Instagram and SoundCloud, DM ‘em, grab the demos, pick the standouts like I did for Mission to Saturn chapter I various compilation. If it’s distinct, we’re in, and yeah, it’s about pushing their sound, not just dropping tracks.
Harder, faster and darker dance sounds are more popular than ever. How do you stay ahead of the trends and make sure you have something different to say? Is reinvention always an active part of the creative process?
You’ve actively encouraged people to talk about mental health in the past. Was that born from your own struggles and is the scene dealing with that subject better now than it was?
Tell us about your mix, the aim you had with it, and what you wanted it to say.
Just got back from my Asia tour. I recorded this set live at Zero Tokyo. Such an amazing club, one of my favs!
Went full bouncy-trancey-schranzy in this one: funny vocals, zero seriousness, no boring beats, just pure fun.
It’s a reminder you don’t have to take yourself too seriously to dance!
What are you working on for the rest of the year?
I’m super hyped! My new track Mamichula drops twenty-third October, recorded my own voice for the first time, which was honestly scary as hell, but I did it.
